"Whether I'm teaching writing, editing, or coaching, the goal is to meet people where they are.
Then I can help them figure out where they need to go."

    The Long Story

With nearly four decades of teaching experience, my coaching and editorial approach is rooted in solid instructional practices. Whether you're a novice writer embarking on your first book, a seasoned novelist seeking feedback, or a student crafting a college essay, I'm here to guide you. While the journey may not be easy, I'm committed to your progress.

A bit about me: I'm a lifelong Long Island resident, a proud mother of three, and a doting nana to two grandchildren. My academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in communications with a focus on broadcast journalism, a master's in English education, and a master’s in library science. Additionally, I've pursued postgraduate studies in education, literature, writing, and research.

Having secured my first contract with Penguin Random House in 2012, I've published a total of 19 novels with both major and independent publishers. As someone intimately familiar with the industry, I understand the unique challenges authors face in today's ever-evolving publishing landscape. Beyond author sessions, I'm enthusiastic about collaborating with public libraries, schools, writers' groups, and community organizations to develop workshops, classes, and talks on writing, publishing, and the arts.

    The Short Story

Lauren Rico, Award-Winning Author

"As I was working on my biggest, most important project to date I found myself too close to the story and its characters. Something was off but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I knew I needed someone I could trust to give me some honest, constructive feedback before submission. Jeannie worked me into her schedule quickly, giving the story a thorough reading, keeping in mind the perspective of both readers and editors. She presented me with a thoughtful, in-depth assessment of the work, flagging issues I hadn’t considered, and providing concrete, actionable recommendations for improvement. It’s been said that “the devil is in the details.” With Jeannie’s help, we exorcised all the demons from my manuscript, and it wasn’t long before it sold at auction!"
